The Writing and Talking Club at London Metropolitan University
On Saturday 18 May 2024 London’s Metropolitan University’s Writing and Talking Club members, aged 13 to 16, visited Tall Stories studio for a Narration and Storytelling masterclass led by our Artistic Director, Toby Mitchell.
The young members were given the opportunity to perform the stories they’d written and received feedback and direction on their performances.
Following the brilliant performances of their insightful stories, the young members were able to ask questions about Tall Stories and the creative process of producing a theatre show.
Tall Stories in the Woods
In 2022 we collaborated with award-winning outdoor education provider The Garden Classroom to deliver an innovative half-term activity club called ‘Tall Stories in the Woods’. For children aged 7-11, this blended drama and storytelling with forest school approaches and activities. Based entirely outdoors at Gillespie Park in Islington, we brought the story of ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell to life through drama games, imagination, den building, crafts and more.

In 2021 we held our own drama summer programme for children for the first time. Based in our Studio, we invited children aged 6-8 to join us for a week of theatrical fun and creativity, culminating in a performance for families at the end of the week.
We were part of Islington Council’s Holiday Activities and Food programme, providing free holiday enrichment provision including lunch to children from low-income families in the borough.
We hope to provide similar opportunities in future school holidays – watch this space!
“Giving the children opportunities for different types of creative experiences has really given them an imagination boost!”
