Adapted from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s award-winning picture book, Tall Stories’ acclaimed production promises a spellbinding seasonal treat for families.

The story begins with a warning: “No gruffalo should ever set foot in the deep dark wood…” But when a wild, blustery night arrives, the Gruffalo’s curious daughter ignores her father’s fears about the mythical Big Bad Mouse. Venturing into the snowy forest, she follows mysterious tracks, meets peculiar creatures and wonders – could the Big Bad Mouse really exist after all?

A production loved by the creators of the book

Julia Donaldson herself praised Tall Stories’ adaptation, saying: “Tall Stories bring their own special magic to their stage productions based on my books. Children will love entering the atmosphere of the deep dark wood and enjoy the catchy songs. The Big Bad Mouse is worth waiting for.”

Illustrator Axel Scheffler added: “The snowy deep dark wood based on my illustrations is brought to life by Tall Stories and almost becomes a character in its own right. A favourite moment for me is when the Gruffalo’s Child sits on the Gruffalo’s lap and the book cover image is created on the stage. I think the young audience will enjoy it very much.”

A family favourite returns

Packed with songs, laughs and just the right amount of spooky fun, the show is suitable for everyone aged 3 to 103. Critics have already lavished praise on the production:

★★★★★ ‘Warm, witty and beautifully made… a fantastic family favourite’ LondonTheatre1

★★★★ ‘Perfect children’s entertainment’ The Scotsman

★★★★ ‘Fun, daft and a little scary!’ Time Out
