Relaxed Performances are open to everyone but are especially tailored to support audiences who may benefit from a more relaxed performance environment. This may include children, young people, and adults with neurodivergence, such as autism, learning difficulties and other sensory or communication needs.
The house lights will remain on throughout the show, and audiences will be able to come and go from the space if they need a break from the performance. There is also a relaxed attitude to noise, and the sound and lighting will be adapted to more comfortable levels.
We produce visual guides to help audience members know what to expect from the performances, which are available on request.

“My son is seven and has autism and ADHD. He’s a huge Julia Donaldson fan. The relaxed Tall Stories performances have provided him with a perfect introduction to the theatre. Knowing that we won’t be “shushed” if my son stims or that we can leave our seats if he needs a movement break means my son can truly enjoy the theatrical experience. It also lessens the pressure on me. During relaxed performances I don’t feel judged if my son becomes dysregulated as I am surrounded by other families who ‘get it’.”
