
Tall Stories’ unique brand of physical story theatre has toured from London England to London Ontario, and from London’s West End to Broadway’s New Victory, taking in Ireland, Poland and Asia en route.
The company was founded in 1997 by directors Olivia Jacobs and Toby Mitchell and is a registered charity (England and Wales, no. 1121416).

May 2013 More exciting news about our Xmas 2013 season. The Snail and the Whale will be performing at London’s St James Theatre from 10 Dec 2013 to 5 Jan 2014. Tickets are now on sale!
The Gruffalo is back this Xmas 2013! The deep, dark wood returns to London’s West End at The Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue from 20 Nov 2013!
April 2013 Exciting news! Room on the Broom has been nominated for an Olivier Award. And our brand new show My Brother the Robot has started touring – to very positive reactions from audiences. Please eat lots of seasonal chocolate to celebrate both shows!

October 2012 It’s been a busy month at Tall Stories! The Snail and the Whale sailed off to the Far East for a 2 week tour in Singapore and Hong Kong whilst The Gruffalo visited a much hotter deep, dark wood in Dubai. He’s having a well earned rest before an Xmas run at ArtsDepot, a tour of Hong Kong, Singapore & Manila and a 4 month tour of North America in the new year!! Meanwhile, it’s time to hop back onto the broom as rehearsals for Room on the Broom get underway ready for a short UK tour beginning on Saturday 20th October and an Xmas run in the ‘West End’ at The Lyric, Shaftesbury Avenue
27 September 2012 Tall Stories is looking for one or possibly two Assistant Directors to work with us this October and over Christmas on our forthcoming productions of ‘Room on the Broom’, ‘The Gruffalo’, ‘The Gruffalo’s Child’, and ‘The Snow Dragon’. The successful candidate(s) will assist the Director during the rehearsal period with the view to becoming a Resident Director who may be asked to direct the show the next time it is rehearsed. 24 September 2012 Lucy Wood has now joined us in the Tall Stories office and we are thrilled to have her! Welcome Lucy!
12 September 2012 The Gruffalo took to the skies for charity raising a fantastic £3716.22 for Families Against Neuroblastoma and it’s still rising. Check out the video here
August 2012 What a busy summer for Tall Stories! Our lovely General Manager Siobhan has sadly now left Tall Stories but Lucy Wood – our equally lovely new Producer will start working with us in September! The Snail and the Whale was a huge success at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival – a great send off for the brilliant original cast who finished the tour at the end of August! We wish them all the best for their next exciting projects!
12 July 2012 We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Tall Stories’ new Producer, Lucy Wood, who will be joining the Tall Stories team from September. There’s not going to be a dry eye in the office when Siobhan leaves (we’ll need a lot of cake that day), but we’re very excited that Lucy is coming on board. Here’s to a happy and successful future for us all…
28 May 2012 Tall Stories are very sad indeed to announce that Siobhan Higgins, our wonderful General Manager, has decided to hand in her notice and head off for pastures new. Siobhan has been with the company for five years and she has been instrumental in helping to shape the company and make it what it is today. We are so sad to lose her, but we know that she will go on to amazing things. Siobhan – we will miss you and we wish you all the very best of everything in the future.
21 May 2012 Today our new project co-ordinator Charlotte Lund started working for us. Welcome, Charlotte!
March 2012 Sad news for us as our lovely projects manager Lisa is leaving in April – albeit for a job that seems tailor-made for her at The Lion King. We will miss you, Lisa.
Meanwhile our brand new show The Snail and the Whale is going from strength to strength and receiving fantastic feedback from audiences. It’s off to the Edinburgh Fringe in August. Twinkle Twonkle is touring America, The Gruffalo has set off on a UK tour, and he and his child are still playing in Germany and Australia.
Summer 2011 Things are busy at Tall Stories. Our new show Mr Benn had a lovely time at the Edinburgh Fringe in August as well a short tour in the UK. He’s currently resting up but watch this space for a possible return from this extraordinary show!
Room on the Broom returned from 4 months touring in the US followed by a short and fun 10 days in Dubai. The Witch and her friends will be back in the UK for Christmas – you can catch them at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, Leicester Curve and finally Birmingham Town Hall. Twinkle Twonkle will be in residence at the wonderful Roundhouse in Camden for Christmas, after which it will be touring America for 3 months.
The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child have also had a busy year, with Gruffalo touring in Germany and his daughter set to open at the Junges Theatre in Bonn in the next few weeks. Both shows continue their tour of Australia and New Zealand too with The Gruffalo making his debut at Sydney Opera House this September.
Back in the UK, The Gruffalo’s Child continues to tour and will be performing at ArtsDepot in London this Christmas. Mr Gruffalo himself will be back in the West End (dates to be announced shortly) before setting off on tour next year. Watch out too for The Snow Dragon, which starts touring in September and will be jetting off to Hong Kong as part of its tour, as well as performing at Chelsea Theatre this Christmas.
On top of all this Tall Stories are proud to announce that we have a new home. On July 4th we will be taking up residence at Jackson’s Lane in Highgate. Whilst we’re sad to leave The Institute and the friends we have made here, we’re very excited to be based in a busy theatre again and to be part of the continuing exciting developments at Jacksons Lane.
Xmas 2010 All seven seasonal shows are now open! So far we’ve had great audiences and some lovely reviews. We’re now busy planning our new show Mr Benn (previewing at north London’s ArtsDepot on 30 April/1 May), as well as various international tours. The Gruffalo’s Child is also touring the UK from February onwards…
July 2010: Twinkle Twonkle and The Gruffalo are touring the UK. Room on the Broom opens at London’s Garrick Theatre on 28 July. Twinkle Twonkle is off to the Edinburgh Fringe for August. From September 2010 we’ll be teaching an evening class on storytelling theatre at our home The Institute.
February 2010: Twinkle Twonkle is on its way. We have received funding from Arts Council England for this astronomy-themed show and we are collaborating with the Royal Society in their 350th birthday year. See Twinkle Twonkle for details.
October 2009: Tall Stories has moved. We are very sad to have left the Compass Theatre, but after three and a half years of mammoth commuting, we have moved closer to central London. Our new home is The Institute Arts Centre in East Finchley. There are more details on our Contact page, but to email us, please always use info@tallstories.org.uk or “_firstname_@tallstories.org.uk”.
